Eight days before the 2024 federal, state and municipal elections, more than 500 people, all inhabitants of the municipal seat of Pantelhó, located in the Altos region of Chiapas, left their homes due to the wave of violence that has been unleashed in the municipality.

The inhabitants, who omitted their names, indicated that, among men, women, older adults, young people, girls and boys, they left the town, the businesses have established schedules for fear of being attacked, while public transportation has reduced its runs. heading to San Cristóbal de Las Casas, for fear of being ambushed.

They added that health and education services have been suspended, “the municipal seat almost looks empty.” The state and federal forces continue in the demarcation, only carrying out patrols in the streets, sometimes on the highways, there is no security in the entire town.

Finally, the residents who still remain in the municipal seat of Pantelhó, indicated that they fear that on June 2 they could be attacked for voting, they denounced that the armed groups are already putting pressure on the minority reluctant to vote, so they ask greater security in the municipality to avoid further attacks on the population.
