– The piece dates from the end of the 19th century

San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.- The Mundo Maya Textile Center located in the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, will present to the public the “Ancient blue Huipil 12-414 Pellizzi and its reproduction.”
It was reported that the Antique Blue Huipil 12-414 from the Pellizzi Collection dates back to the end of the 19th century and is one of the oldest pieces kept by the Mundo Maya Textile Center.
The Textile Center indicated that thanks to the process of rescuing fabric on a backstrap loom with additional weft in San Juan Chamula (2020-2023), it was possible to make a reproduction of this garment, “from oral sources we know it was used in ceremonial contexts such as the reception and delivery of stewardships.
He added that the huipil contains six designs: Pepen-butterfly, sluch jchamo’-chamula design, Luk’jol-inclined, ch’um-pumpkin, be chon-snake path and puntax-tips.
This huipil will be exhibited in the spaces of the Mundo Maya Textiles Center located in the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, from Tuesday to Sunday starting at 9:00 in the morning.
