Bad Boys 4: hasta la muerte

To the rhythm of a version of the hit Bad Boys, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were surrounded by thousands of fans and even a live band during the premiere of their film Bad Boys 4: Until Death, which took place yesterday in Mexico City.

Visibly happy and with a smile from ear to ear, the duo arrived at Toreo Parque Central, in the north of the city, to share with their fans the saga that, having also been recorded in Mexico in its third installment, “is like a second home for the bad boys” said Smith.

Surrounded by a set-up that simulated one of the streets of Miami, where this new film took place, the protagonists let themselves be loved by an audience that cheered them on loudly from every corner of the structure and its surroundings.

“We are very happy to be here, thank you for inviting me,” said Smith in perfect Spanish.

“I have been trying to remember how many times I have come and I think this is the tenth, perhaps, but this is the most incredible one I have had. “Thank you for the love,” added the 55-year-old actor.

Smith and Lawrence dedicated themselves to sharing with their fans, giving away selfies, autographs and singing. Both recorded Bad Boys Forever in 2020, but it was in that process that the pandemic was activated, so Martin could not receive the Mexican love as he should and his euphoria on this occasion had him delighted. So much so that they assured that they would love to return to record another episode of this police couple on Mexican lands.

“We filmed the last one here, but I am happy to return and receive all the love,” said the 59-year-old actor.

“Definitely, we will be back, after seeing all these beautiful people and all the love they have given us, of course,” added the actor.

The artists culminated their meeting by returning a little from this installment wearing two ponchos that were given to them, with the legend “Bad” and “Boys” and taking out their best steps to the rhythm of the anthem of their saga in its Mexican version.

Bad boys not so bad

The fourth installment of the film starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith presents a more sensitive, but no less bad ass duo.

“Bad things happening doesn’t mean you’re bad,” Marcus (Martin Lawrence) tells Mike (Will Smith), while he has a panic attack in one of the scenes of Bad Boys 4: Until Death.

And the fourth installment is all about vindicating oneself and for this pair, the new plot will make them rethink what kind of police officers, but above all, human beings, they want to be, and what things are worth risking their lives for, while that same opportunity to seek to do the right thing is presented in each of the characters, regardless of their past, a lesson that for both protagonists was crucial to reflect on the screen.

“Of course I believe in second chances, it depends on what you’ve done, but of course I do,” Lawrence immediately reflects.

“Of course! And I think that’s one of the nicest things about this movie that we were able to put ideas like this into an action-comedy film, concepts like starting over, things like trusting the universe, and all those spiritual elements that I love. We wanted the people who have been on this journey from the beginning with us to feel like they were with their bad boys and that certain things happened to them so that they could evolve, grow, and become better versions of themselves and have the opportunity to explore more modern concepts about consciousness and spirituality and also be able to talk about things like mental health,” added Smith, who in 2022 was immersed in controversy by slapping fellow actor Chris Rock, after he made fun of his wife Jada Pinkett, at the Oscar ceremony.

For both protagonists, seeing their characters from this more vulnerable side, in a certain way makes them closer, since it goes from being a movie of action heroes to human beings, who of course can kick ass, but the bravest thing is to face their fears and confront their mistakes.

For example, in the case of Lawrence, whose character has a kind of spiritual awakening that takes him on a journey as deep as it is fun, and although in real life the actor does not take it to that level, he does consider himself a person in contact with his spiritual being.

“Every day I give thanks, every time I get up. I am a very grateful and blessed person and I always give a prayer to that,” said the 59-year-old comedian.

The explosive exploits of this pair began in 1995 and although 30 years later they continue to join new missions, the reality is that the action

It doesn’t get any easier, so they shared with us what the biggest challenge was in this fourth installment in which they continue to delve into high speeds, shooting, punches, action even in the air and now even crocodiles.

“It’s true that we’re not 25 anymore” confesses Lawrence with a laugh. “For me the most difficult scene was the one with the burning truck. It was crazy!” he added.

“For me (the most challenging thing) had to do with this new view that the director introduced, because he wanted to create a new visual seal for what he wanted the view of the shooter to look like (like in video games) and for that we had to use a device that goes around the chest and hip and has this big tube to which the camera is tied and then be able to move the camera with the gun and then turn it towards me or in front of me, but it’s an extremely heavy thing,” explained Smith.

“Exactly! I couldn’t do it, I hurt my back and we did the same scene like seven times” added his partner with a laugh.

The sequel directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and coming to national theaters on June 6 brings back this explosive police couple for a new mission where after one of the members of their team has been killed, apparently by someone from their own side, with no one to trust and falling into a trap that makes them see themselves as the main suspects, it will be the two of them against the world once again.

Paola Núñez, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Eric Dane and Ioan Gruffudd are also part of this installment.
