The iconic steam train The Empress 2816 has caused a stir in several entities of the country. It recently crossed the border from Mexico to the United States as part of the celebrations of the first anniversary of the merger of the Canadian Pacific with the Kansas City Southern. The visit is part of the tour called Final Spike Steam Tour, organized by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), which aims to travel through the three countries (Canada, the United States and Mexico) that make up the network of this railway company.
So far, hundreds of railway enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the passage of this emblematic locomotive that passed through Monterrey last Thursday, May 30. The locomotive will depart for Saltillo and then begin its journey through the lands of Potosi, joining the municipalities of Catorce, Moctezuma and later the capital of Potosi, where it will make a technical stop for one day before continuing its journey to Mexico City, in Plaza Carso.
This Sunday, June 2, the locomotive is expected to visit the municipalities of the Potosino plateau, where it will be received by hundreds of spectators who remember with nostalgia the passage of the passenger railroad. Among them, some former workers of the Mexican railway line, who saw the diesel locomotives, but not the steam ones that traveled the country’s tracks.
The locomotive will depart from Monterrey, Nuevo León, on Sunday, June 2 at six in the morning, where an exhibition will be held.
