The last trip of the steam locomotive Empress 2816 crossed through San Luis de la Paz and San José Iturbide on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon in the state of Hidalgo the accident occurred where a woman lost her life

Guanajuato.- An attempt to take a selfie with an old steam locomotive that crossed Guanajuato on Wednesday morning ended in tragedy in the afternoon at the Aragón station in Nopala de Villagrán, in the state of Hidalgo. A woman lost her life after being hit by the Empress 2816 steam train, when she tried to capture a moment next to the moving machine.
The woman was with her partner and despite being warned of the risks, she approached the track and when she tried to take a selfie with her cell phone, the train hit her head and she was left lying there losing consciousness.
Witnesses to the accident reported that they saw the woman’s companion running screaming for help, so they made calls to 911 urgently asking for the presence of paramedics, since the woman still showed vital signs, however, when the paramedics arrived they limited themselves to certifying that the victim had already died.
It should be noted that there are many accidents involving people who look for high-risk places to take a photo with their cell phone and, ignoring the dangers and warnings, end up losing their lives.
The “Empress 2816” passed through Guanajuato
Shortly after 8 in the morning, the old steam train “Empress 2816” arrived in San Luis de la Paz, at the Buchanan López station where hundreds of people were waiting for it, although its stop was very short, those present managed to capture several selfies, before continuing towards Doctor Mora and San José Iturbide, then it would head towards Querétaro and shortly after noon it passed through Nopala de Villagrán, in the state of Hidalgo, where the accident occurred.
This mega train was manufactured in 1930 and this Wednesday it arrived in Guanajuato, after traveling some routes in Canada and the United States, as part of the Final Spike Tour.
In Mexico, the steam locomotive began its journey in Coahuila on May 29, passed through Saltillo, Estación Catorce, San Luis Potosí, and arrived in Guanajuato on Wednesday, where it arrived for a routine inspection at the Buchanan López station in San Luis de Paz, to continue to San José Iturbide and then to the state of Querétaro.
The historic last journey of this steam locomotive began on April 24 in Calgary, Canada, and on May 7, it had its arrival in Mexico City on the agenda, to finally return on July 7 to Winnipeg, Canada.
It should be noted that throughout all the places where it passed through Mexico, many people took advantage of the historic moment of the passage of the mega steam train to take a selfie, although the tragic accident that we mentioned occurred in the state of Hidalgo.
