The negative perception of cleanliness and mobility in Los Cabos, despite the high general satisfaction of tourists, could negatively affect the destination in the long term. Although the current satisfaction is 96%, these problems can deteriorate the experience and reputation of the destination

Since the disappearance of the National Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR), citizens have reported that the tourist areas of Los Cabos are in total abandonment. The accumulation of garbage and the lack of maintenance are the most notable problems in the area, which has caused visitors to rate the cleanliness and image of the destination negatively.
According to the exit surveys of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), mobility and cleanliness have begun to generate a negative perception among tourists who visit the destination. In an interview, Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, director of the trust in the region, stated that these aspects are affecting the experience of visitors.
“As you know, every month we measure some key indicators for us: mobility, cleanliness, security; the perception of these three indicators, in addition to many others. The survey also measures particular places such as the marina, the roads, the airport; strategic points for the visitor. It has had a gradual downward effect, not on security, but on mobility and cleanliness.”
Although Los Cabos has begun to generate negative points in the tourist experience, FITURCA stressed that this has not significantly affected the level of satisfaction of visitors, which remains at 96%.
“I mention it to you in a very important way, if we measure what the level of general perception of the visitor is, it is very positive. That is, 96% of tourists mentioned that they are very satisfied, regardless of whether they rate some elements as not so positive, such as those we are talking about. But let’s say that the check that the tourist gives us, that despite the fact that the general experience is very good, but that they see elements that are not so positive, we have to take care of it if not the tourist is going to look for other options of destinations to go to.”
During the last quarter of 2023, Cabo San Lucas’ nightlife experienced a 20% decrease in sales. However, with the beginning of 2024 and the urban image problems that persist, this trend has worsened even more, reaching a drop of 33% compared to the previous year.
