The Navy Marathon in Mérida will take place in June

The 35th edition of the Navy Marathon 2024 will be held on Sunday, June 30th. This event has become an international affair, expecting the participation of 3,000 runners starting at 4:30 in the morning. The route was presented at the Mesón de la Luna hotel, featuring an attractive prize pool of 320,000 pesos to be distributed among the winners. There will be minor changes to last year’s route along the entire coast, passing through the emblematic and tourist spots of the host port.

Running clubs such as Tribu Bacab, Alo Team, Artemio Navarro, Runners Team Mérida, Saavedra, Pinki López Training, Velociraptors, Mantra Club, Barracudas, Ixel Team, Gómez Team, and Tixkokeros Runners were represented at the event. Additionally, the MID mascots will once again broadcast this marathon, the oldest and most traditional in Yucatán, through their website.

The marathon’s slogan will once again be “Conquer the Coast,” and for this purpose, various sponsors and sports promoters have joined the cause, such as Enrique Sierra Yam, Imelda Huerta, Raúl Pech Kantún, Astrid Novelo Rosas from Volaré, Alejandro Maldonado Peniche, Víctor Maravé Canché, Romualdo Tec Medina, and Gabino Tzec Valle from the San Silvestre de Progreso Race, who will have the opportunity to promote the Marathon among their runners.

As always, the distance to be covered will be 42 kilometers, starting and finishing at the Meteorite Museum on the Progreso boardwalk. The route has been slightly modified due to the works at the Puerto de Altura, so a surveyor from the Mexican Athletics Federation will come to validate the minor changes in the course to make it official. There will also be a half marathon and relay races.

The medals, which are the last of the event trilogy, and the shirt were presented. It was also announced that registration is open, and participants can sign up on the dashport.

The kit distribution will take place at the Marathon Expo the day before the event at the Siglo XXI Convention Center from 9 am to 4 pm. Additionally, the Progreso City Council will organize a popular evening on June 29th.

Present at the announcement were Jorge Esteban Abud, director of the Yucatán Sports Institute (Idey), accompanied by Imelda Salazar Martínez, director of Special Segments of the State Government’s Tourism Promotion Secretariat; Alicia Lara Alcocer, representative of the National Port System Administration of Progreso; Iván Herrera Rosiles, director of Sports Promotion at Idey; María Teresa Vázquez Baqueiro, director of the Institute for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities of the State of Yucatán (Iipedey); Lieutenant Rosario Guadalupe Reyes, representative of the Yucalpetén Naval Zone, and Officer Rafael Huerta Sicardo, representative of the National Guard in Yucatán, among other special guests and sponsors.
