President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that they are seeking help from other countries such as France to obtain equipment to locate sailors who are missing, after the crash of an aircraft of the institution into the sea.

The United States indicated that it does not have what is necessary for this type of rescue, said the president.

“We have an issue with relatives of sailors, helicopter pilots who had an accident, who are at 1,500, 2,000 meters (deep)” and the relatives, understandably, he said, are asking to be found, so “the admiral is on the lookout.”

“The United States cannot help, they do not have – it seems untrue – material or equipment for that, to enter those depths, because in addition they have in their conception that when an accident like this happens the tribute is that they remain in the sea and all the ceremonies are done for them, but the rescue is not considered; so, we are looking with France.”

On March 6 of this year, the Navy published a statement: “During operations for the Maintenance of the Rule of Law carried out by this Institution, a regrettable event occurred where a Panther-type naval air unit (helicopter), which was on board the long-range ocean patrol vessel ARM ‘JUÁREZ’, suffered an accident moments after taking off from the flight platform of said vessel 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) southwest of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.”

Until that moment, the causes of the crash of the aircraft that was transporting eight naval elements were unknown, of which three were rescued alive in stable health, but “unfortunately three of them lost their lives (two women and one man), and two are missing, so the corresponding search actions are being implemented.”
