A low pressure zone with cyclonic potential will cause intense rains to torrential rains in eastern and southeastern Mexico, as well as the Yucatan Peninsula, on Saturday night and Sunday morning, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico reported.
In a statement, the agency reported that accumulated torrential rains of 150 to 250 millimeters are expected in Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo and Tabasco.
In addition, intense rains of 75 to 150 millimeters in Veracruz and Yucatan, as well as very strong rains of 50 to 75 millimeters in Guerrero and Puebla.
It also forecasts heavy rains of 25 to 50 millimeters in Colima, Jalisco and Michoacan and showers of 5 to 25 millimeters in Durango, State of Mexico, Morelos, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas.
This is due to a low pressure zone with the potential for cyclonic development located south of the Chiapas coast, in interaction with the monsoon trough, a low pressure channel extended in the southwest of the Gulf of Mexico and with an instability zone in the Gulf of Mexico.
“As well as another low pressure channel, but extended over the northwest, west and center of the national territory, in interaction with the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean and with instability at high levels of the atmosphere,” he explained.
The SMN warned that the forecast rains will be with electrical discharges and “could generate landslides, increase in river and stream levels, as well as overflows and flooding in low areas of the aforementioned states,” so it urged the population to heed the warnings of the SMN.
The intense rains caused flooding in Quintana Roo on Friday, in addition to blackouts and material damage, so the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) implemented the DN-III plan to help the affected population.
On Thursday, the SMN reported that a low-pressure channel in interaction with the monsoon trough and two low-pressure zones with cyclonic potential would cause a period of intense to torrential rains in eastern and southeastern Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula from June 13 to 20.
The heat will continue
In contrast, the SMN forecast for this Sunday maximum temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius in Baja California, north of the country; in addition to 40 to 45 degrees in Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz.
Also from 35 to 40 degrees for Aguascalientes, Colima, Guanajuato, northern Hidalgo, Morelos, Oaxaca, northern and southwest Puebla and Zacatecas, as well as from 30 to 35 degrees for Campeche, Querétaro, Tabasco and Yucatán.
