SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS EN LOS AÑOS 70 DEL SIGLO XX

Note in the foreground the Calle Real de Mexicanos and the houses of the “barrio brujo” with their tiles, corridors and porticos so characteristic of colonial architecture. In the middle part the monumental temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán next to its ex-convent and the Alameda Utrilla, free of course, the large trees where legend has it that they hanged people in the times of the Carrancistas cover the facade of the church of the Generala de Caridad, you can also see the Kindergarten.

On the left a deserted but new market that bears the name of Don Jose Castillo Tielemans, who was the governor who started it to relocate the tenants of La Merced. Behind Santo Domingo the temple of the Lord of the Transfiguration of the blacksmith and cockfighting neighborhood of El Cerrillo. In the background, but also in a prominent way, the fields and plains belonging to the territory of Cuxtitali, the nascent colonies Revolución Mexicana and 31 de Marzo, one with land from Cerrillo and others with land from the “rough neighborhood” of the east, stand out.

To the right of the background, the hill of Las Delicias with its little neighborhood of Rosario where they harvested apples and the imposing dome of the Guadalupe temple with its splendorous white, accompanied by more trees and the road from La Garita towards Las Piedrecitas, Cruzton, Tenejapa, Huixtán, etc. A quick reading of San Cristóbal de Las Casas from the 70s of the last century in a single image taken by the “magician of the lens.”
