One of the most visited places by content creators in Mexico City is Avenida Presidente Masaryk, considered one of the most expensive streets in the capital and in the world.
Located in the Polanco neighborhood, within the Miguel Hidalgo district, it is approximately 3 kilometers long. In the famous place there are luxury stores of international brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, among others; as well as art galleries and jewelry stores.
Over the years, it has become a reference point for both tourists and local residents looking for an exclusive shopping experience, but it also offers a modernized urban landscape with large green areas and avant-garde architectural elements.
Its name was assigned by President Lázaro Cárdenas in 1936, in honor of Tomáš Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia who established himself as a democratic figure and defender of human rights.
Today, the avenue has a statue of the politician, which was unveiled in 2000 and is identical to the one in front of Prague Castle.
Although Polanco was originally a place with large empty lots and some estates, from the 40s and 50s it began to become a residential neighborhood for the upper class. In its surroundings there are luxury shops, exclusive restaurants and the most expensive avenues in Latin America.
Since its inauguration, the avenue has undergone several changes, the most recent being in 2013, which was in charge of the Franco-Mexican Bernardo Gómez Pimienta.
Together with the authorities, the neighbors of the area decided that it should be a place where the use of bicycles and pedestrians prevailed, since previously the area could only be traveled by car and the demand was too high for parking.
Housing costs on Presidente Masaryk Street
According to a report by Propiedades.com and Real Estate Analytics in 2023, the average price of apartments for sale is 89,800 pesos per square meter, so the cost can reach up to 22 million pesos.
Regarding the price of a commercial space, the cost is also measured in square meters, and can reach up to 1 million 250 thousand pesos per year. However, it should be noted that although they mostly feature luxury stores, there is also the National Conservatory of Music, a building that was declared an Artistic Monument of the Nation in 2012.
