According to the report offered by the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, during the morning press conference on July 26, the National Institute of Migration (INM) identified Larry Curtis Parker as the man who piloted the plane in which the notorious drug traffickers traveled.
According to the report, between 07:10 and 07:31 hours on Thursday, two men appeared at the Hermosillo International Airport to arrange the departure of a Cessna 205 type plane with registration N8454Z; that is, the aircraft belonging to Curtis Parker.
The flight plan, publicly released during ‘La Mañanera’, indicates that only the aforementioned man, of American nationality, traveled to the Santa Teresa Airport, located in El Paso, Texas ―the same place where they were detained―.
Although Rosa Icela initially said that the aircraft was scheduled to leave at 3:00 p.m., she later said that it took off at 8:05 a.m. Pacific Time. Minutes later, she shared a report that actually indicates that it took off at 7:57 a.m., arriving in Texas at 10:19 a.m.
“We have to say that we have all the monitoring of the pilot, the entries and exits to Mexico, that he is registered as a visitor,” she said. However, the times do not coincide with the arrival of ‘El Mayo’ and Joaquín Guzmán López, registered shortly after 3:00 p.m.
Larry Curtis Parker denies being involved
According to journalist Peniley Ramírez, Curtis Parker revealed to her that he had nothing to do with the most relevant security event so far this year in Mexico.
According to the journalist, the American is a businessman who owns an asphalt company. He lives in New Mexico, but constantly crosses the border in his plane to Hermosillo, Sonora, to hunt and fish in Mexican territory.
“One of those trips occurred this Thursday, the same day when, on another plane, Joaquín Guzmán López and Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada boarded a flight to ‘El Paso’, where the FBI arrested them,” said Peniley.
The man also said that, that day, he was in Sonora to carry out some paperwork and hold some meetings. His day went by normally until, at night, he noticed that the media included his license plate in the data on the capture of ‘El Mayo’. His situation worsened after the SSPC report.
“I am an American citizen who enjoys hunting and fishing in Mexico and I have nothing to do with this story. (…) I go to Mexico a lot, I love hunting there and my trips are for pleasure. I am just a businessman who loves Mexico,” he said to Peniley.
‘El Mayo’ and ‘El Güero Moreno’ would have arrived in a Beechcraft King Air
Another inconsistency between the data presented in the media and by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador is the difference between the aircraft cited and the one seized.
According to the SSPC, ‘El Mayo’ and ‘El Güero Moreno’ arrived in the US in a Cessna 205 plane, while the aircraft seized by US authorities is a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air.
It is a much more comfortable plane than the first one, with more space and safer.
“I found two planes that fit the description, but their routes are not public. We do not know what time the other plane took off, who the pilot was, what the registration number is, or who it belongs to,” Peniley added.
It should be noted that, during ‘La Mañanera’, López Obrador was questioned about this fact. However, he only asked to wait for the investigation to progress.
“I also asked the same thing, because another plane appears, yes, and this is a five-seat plane, very small (…). They could have changed, right?, on the way, but we will know all that. All of that is being investigated to see on cameras what we have,” he declared.
