Hurricane Carlotta is ‘imminent’ and could reach Mexico on this date; possible Cyclone Daniel also raises potential

We must keep an eye on the National Water Commission and the National Meteorological Service, since it is “a matter of hours or days” for Cyclone Carlotta to appear in Mexico, which would be the third of the 2024 Hurricane Season in the Pacific Ocean, which previously had storms Aletta and Bud, without major damage to national territory.

Although it has been repeatedly mentioned that this Hurricane Season will be particularly active and powerful in the Atlantic, the next major phenomenon of this nature would arise on the other side of the Mexican coast, since the most recent report from Conagua reveals that a Low Pressure Zone in the Pacific currently has a 90% chance of becoming a Tropical Cyclone.

Hurricane Carlotta 2024 in Mexico: Latest news

Date on which Carlotta would arrive in Mexico and affected states
Understanding that these phenomena “have no word” and can alter their strength, trajectory and conditions from one moment to the next, the specialized portal Meteored offers a fairly clear overview of what will happen with the possible Hurricane Carlotta in Mexico, if it will reach said category and its possible effects, currently classified as a Tropical Disturbance south of Michoacán.

According to said media, the forecasts indicate that the Low Pressure Zone will become a Tropical Depression Three-E during Wednesday, July 31 or Thursday, August 1, and then evolve into Tropical Storm Carlotta between Thursday and Sunday of this week.

Subsequently, Hurricane Carlotta 2024 is likely to emerge over the weekend (Friday August 2, Saturday August 3, or Sunday August 4), and is expected to reach Category 2 intensity on the Saffir-Simpson Scale, close to level 3. If so, it would be the first hurricane in the Pacific this year.

It is important to note that predictive models establish that Carlotta’s trajectory would be moving away from Mexico; that is, towards the west and out to sea, although this does not mean that it will not cause significant effects in our country, with storms, electrical discharges, strong gusts of wind, possible hail, floods, and rising levels of rivers and bodies of water.

Tropical Storm Daniel could also appear soon
The aforementioned would not be the only phenomenon that Mexico could face in the coming days, since a second Tropical Disturbance in the Pacific has increased its cyclonic potential to 80% and, if the trend continues, it could become Tropical Storm or Hurricane Daniel, the fourth of the season in that region and practically “back to back” with Carlotta.

It should be noted that this Low Pressure Zone has not yet officially formed, but the prediction of the National Meteorological Service indicates that its appearance is highly probable during the course of this week and its possible rise to the category of Tropical Cyclone, currently forecast south of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Guerrero.
