In 2024, the price of Chiles en Nogada offered in the different restaurants in Puebla exceeds 500 pesos.

One option to not miss the opportunity to eat Chiles en Nogada is to buy all the ingredients and prepare them at home, spending much less than in restaurants in Puebla.

On this occasion, CENTRAL visited stalls at the “Carmen Serdán” Market, known as “La Acocota”, to find out the prices of each of the ingredients.

As a result, we found that, if Puebla families decide to make ten to 15 chiles this 2024, they would spend approximately 1,090 pesos with 50 cents.

An amount that would only buy two of these in restaurants like the Hotel Boutique Casa Reyna, where they cost 510 pesos each. Which represents a cost five times higher than those made at home.

How much do the ingredients cost to prepare Chiles en Nogada at home?

During the tour of the “La Acocota” market, CENTRAL obtained the prices of the ingredients to make homemade Chiles en Nogada.

It is worth mentioning that everything necessary to make them was found in this place, located on 16 Norte in the Barrio de La Luz in the municipality of Puebla since 1965.

The first and most important are the poblano chiles, a kilo and a half containing ten to 15 pieces, costs 54 pesos.

For the filling, tomato is needed and the kilo costs 30 pesos. In addition, the kilo of onion on this occasion is 16 pesos and garlic, another of the essential ingredients, is seven pesos a piece.

Although there are now options for vegans and vegetarians, traditional Chiles en Nogada contain meat. A kilo of ground beef is offered to the public for 200 pesos, and a kilo of ground pork for 140 pesos.
