Elements of the National Guard (GN), in coordination with personnel from the Mexican Army, seized 4,743 live cartridges of various calibers and 33 magazines for long weapons, inside two vehicles that had been reported stolen in the United States.

In a statement on Sunday, the GN explained that the events were recorded during security and crime prevention patrols on a dirt road in the municipality of General Plutarco Elías Calles, where personnel from both institutions spotted two trucks parked in the undergrowth.

“With the proper security measures, the national guardsmen and elements of the Mexican Army approached the place and deployed a device in the surroundings to try to locate the possible occupants, without obtaining positive results.

“Upon inspecting the vehicles, which had a current theft report in the state of California, United States, they located the following: 4,743 live cartridges of various calibers and 33 magazines for long weapons,” it said.

The confiscated vehicles, including the trucks, were made available to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s office in the state to continue the corresponding investigations.

“With these actions, the National Guard and the Mexican Army reaffirm their commitment to safeguard the well-being of citizens, contributing with the Government of Mexico to guarantee the peace and security of the population,” said the GN.
