The Tehuantepec Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) is one of the most important projects that the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will leave in the southeast of the country. Its first section or train line was inaugurated in December 2022 for passenger travel and the transfer of goods between Veracruz and Oaxaca.
The state of Veracruz has not only benefited from the flow of goods, the economic reactivation in localities in the south of the state and the generation of jobs, but also from the rehabilitation of roads that are part of the Development Poles and that optimize transfer times between one state and another.
This weekend, federal authorities cut the ribbon for the opening of two highway sections in the south of Veracruz, after their rehabilitation, one of them connects with the neighboring state of Oaxaca and is part of the Tehuantepec Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor.
With the rehabilitation of these road sections, it is projected that the flow of goods and services will be facilitated, as well as the optimization of transfer times with savings of up to 2 hours.
The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, in the presence of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador; President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo; the Governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez and the Governor-elect, Rocío Nahle, reported on these new roads and their benefits that we at La Silla Rota present to you:
What is the highway from Veracruz to Oaxaca that now takes 2 hours to get there?
The Acayucan – La Ventosa highway section is part of the federal project of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and saves up to two hours of travel between Veracruz and Oaxaca. The rehabilitated section goes from the south of Veracruz to La Ventosa, a town in the state of Oaxaca, located in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and in the municipality of Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza.
According to Nuño Lara, this section required an investment of more than 9 billion pesos, is 199 kilometers long, has 6 bridges, 16 interchanges, 15 vehicular crossings and 3 bypasses, which facilitate the flow of goods between the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz, in Oaxaca.
Due to its rehabilitation, which generated more than 45,000 jobs, travel times between the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz will be reduced from 4 to 2 hours, thus benefiting more than 1 million inhabitants of both states who daily travel along this stretch of road between one federal entity and another.
The second highway that was inaugurated over the weekend, within the southern district of Veracruz, was the Hidalgotitlán – Minatitlán, which for many years was a dirt road and was affected by the passage of rainy storms, as it created potholes and flooded, making it difficult for cattle to pass.
According to the head of the SICT, the rehabilitation of this stretch of road now includes 32 kilometers of asphalt, hydraulic concrete and causeway, in which 417 million pesos were invested.
Thanks to its paving, more than 6,000 inhabitants of Minatitlán and Hidalgotitlán will benefit from the passage of cattle and the transfer of regional products between one municipality and another, in addition to the time saving of 45 minutes between both localities, which will allow it to become an alternate route that facilitates the arrival at the Port of Coatzacoalcos.
