Yucatán remains the safest state in Mexico

Yucatán continues to hold the top national position as the state with the lowest homicide rate for the fourth consecutive year, according to a government bulletin.

In this regard, the state has a rate of 2.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is almost 11 times lower than the national rate of 24.

The data comes from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

It is noted that Yucatán’s police rank first in the country in performance and trust, according to Inegi.

In its June National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU), Mérida ranked first for the best performance of the state police, with 82% of the population aged 18 and over considering it very effective or somewhat effective.

Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal acknowledges the work and effort of the State Police, which has strengthened security throughout the territory and maintained peace and tranquility for all Yucatecan families.

The proportion obtained in the Yucatecan capital is higher than the national average of 56.8%, representing an increase of 11 percentage points and an advance of 7 positions compared to the same period in 2023.

The state aims to continue maintaining the climate of peace and security.

For this reason, the budget for the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) was increased by 138%, amounting to 3,687 million pesos.

The goal is to maintain and improve the indices in this area. Additionally, it was ensured that this budget cannot be reduced in future administrations.

Furthermore, with the Yucatán Seguro strategy, the police were equipped with technology and extensive training, increasing the number of cameras from 2,248 to 6,775 and road arches from 100 to 219.

As part of these efforts, the C5i was created, and the Police Academy will become a Police University, along with the addition of the Bell 429 helicopter, considered the best equipped of its kind in Latin America, as well as fast boats.

The conditions for the agents have been strengthened with competitive salaries, schemes to access private medical care in case of work accidents, and the possibility of obtaining a credit from the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit).

Scholarships

Scholarships are provided for university to their children, covering 100% of enrollment and tuition, with a bimonthly support of 2,600 pesos if they demonstrate admission to any private or public institution.

Additionally, it is noted again that Public Security personnel are granted free public transportation service through the “Citizen Heroes Circuit” and the “Citizen Heroes Card,” which offers discounts to security forces and health personnel in more than 1,000 establishments.
