Following the armed attack on members of the Municipal Police of Mina, Nuevo León, which left two officers severely injured, Coahuila is on alert, declared the mayor of Monclova, Mario Dávila.
He argued that since there are these types of events in the neighboring state and on highways such as federal highway 53, which borders municipalities in Coahuila, the authorities and police corporations of the state are on alert to prevent these events from occurring in this territory.
“It is very difficult. This speaks of a process of insecurity that occurs in the state of Nuevo León, we are their neighbors and we have to be taking care of the part of Coahuila, because Nuevo León is complicated and we saw that there are confrontations and injuries in the Municipal Police of Mina, there were two seriously injured and the idea is that Coahuila is safe and protected,” he said.
The mayor explained that after this violent event, the Secretary of Public Security and municipal and federal corporations were put on alert and carried out operations at the border with Nuevo León to prevent people from entering to commit crimes.
He stressed that it is a very worrying situation given that Coahuilans from various regions of the state circulate on federal highway 53 and are at risk in the midst of this type of violent situations.
“The information we have is that Coahuila is safe, working on protection issues. That is why we are equipped, with patrol elements, we are increasing the labor force and we have to work in that sense,” he said.
He stressed that the Monclova Police also collaborates in protecting the state so that the tranquility of its inhabitants remains as has happened during these last years.
ABOUT THE ATTACK AND THE ESCAPE
It was approximately at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 7, when a group of armed men shot at one of the police units of the Municipality of Mina Nuevo León, where one of the police commanders of said corporation was traveling.
The criminals managed to seriously injure two of the police officers and fled towards Coahuila, so elements of the Police of Action and Reaction, Civil Police Coahuila, Special Weapons and Tactics Group as well as the Mexican Navy mobilized to the vicinity of Coahuila and Nuevo León to prevent the criminals from entering this territory.
The events left them stranded on federal highway 53 -which connects Monclova with Monterrey- for hours, since the armed men left “flat tires” on the road to prevent the authorities from catching up with them and shooting them down.
