It is serious that PC Morelia issues critical conditions for mansions, without having special opinions: INAH

Grave que PC Morelia emita condiciones críticas para casonas sin restauración

They point out the importance of the restoration of mansions in Morelia in the face of the lack of reports from Civil Protection.

Morelia, Michoacán.- The director of the INAH Center (National Institute of Anthropology and History) Michoacán, Marco Antonio Rodríguez Espinosa, described as worrying the suggestions made by municipal Civil Protection, that almost fifty houses and mansions in the Historic Center of Morelia are in critical condition.

And the federal official based in Michoacán, stressed that Civil Protection Morelia does not have the special reports to determine if the houses and mansions and the citizens around said buildings are really at risk or not.

“I am very concerned when Civil Protection establishes a care route, because this implies the idea that they must be demolished, and there is nothing more false, there are houses that have been there for ‘years’ that are wanting to fall down and they do not fall down because the construction systems do not allow it.”

He added that while it is true that there are spaces that do require a comprehensive restoration, others only need an orderly removal of the stonework that is part of it and that represent a risk for the population, but not a demolition.

In this regard, he explained the importance of the government levels putting on the table better instruments to support the owners of these properties and the corresponding restorations are carried out, which can sometimes be very expensive and unaffordable for an ordinary citizen.

It is serious that PC Morelia issues critical conditions for houses, said the INAH

“It must be said, there are no instruments for people to come and say that they want to restore the property and find out what financing there is.” He added that sometimes it is not easy to identify the owners and in other cases, many prefer to see the buildings deteriorate, thinking that once they are demolished, they will be able to do anything on those lands; however, he clarified that this is not the case.

“The best thing is to start generating conditions to stabilize all the facades that are in this condition of clear deterioration, to consolidate them and eliminate the risk that there is for the population and so that all the buildings can be restored.”
