Residents of the El Regadillo community, in the municipality of Chicomuselo, in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas, prevented elements of the National Guard and the Army from patrolling the area, in protest against the claims they have made to officials to ask for security and to prevent people from continuing to abandon their homes, due to harassment by criminal groups.
Soldiers from the VII Military Region and elements of the National Guard tried to enter El Regadillo, but the inhabitants blocked their way with sticks and stones and stood at the entrance to the town to tell the soldiers that they could not enter. “Be on our side.” “We have been fighting: Why? Because our families have already been displaced,” said a man who spoke to the soldiers.
He told them that on another occasion, a group of soldiers and members of the National Guard threw tear gas bombs at residents of Vado Ancho, with a population of about 120, located 17.4 kilometers from Chicomuselo, which caused damage to children and pregnant women, some of whom lost their children because they could not flee the place when the bombs fell near their homes. “There were losses of unborn children there because of the gas,” the man explained.
