Elements of the 101st Infantry Battalion of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) removed the blockade that residents of the mountains of Chiapas had since August 26, on the road that connects to the municipal capital of Chicomuselo.
With tear gas and armed vehicles, the military removed the blockade where there were mostly elderly people and women from neighboring municipalities.
The residents reported that in the operation they arrested several peasants and took them to the facilities of the 101st Infantry Battalion, located a few meters from the place where the eviction took place.
Those who were at the site said that their fear is that with the action of the army the group called MAIZ, an arm of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) will regain control in the communities of Chicomuselo.
“The same thing always happens, when the army arrives, MAIZ recovers what was lost. With these actions, the army left an oxygen tank for MAÍZ. How helpless it is to see the actions of the army. Why don’t they search the MAÍZ safe houses? The house in front of the Niños Héroes Primary School, or the coffee warehouse (…) the entire population knows that all the armed people come from there,” said one of the inhabitants of Chicomuselo.
On August 25, one day before the extraordinary election for municipal president was held in Chicomuselo, hundreds of residents of municipalities in the region entered the municipal seat of Chicomuselo, which, according to them, was in the hands of the CJNG.
When they entered, some shouted slogans in favor of the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS).
Both cartels, the CJNG and the CDS, are fighting for control of the region, and to do so they force the population to establish blockades.
Residents say that when the army removes the blockades, it is they who are attacked and not those belonging to organized crime groups, who are the ones who force them to be there.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring municipality of Frontera Comalapa, since the night of September 4, members of MAIZ have taken people from homes located in the municipal capital, to take them to establish blockades at the entrance to the municipality and prevent the entry of alleged members of the CDS.
“They began to take all the men and women (from the municipal capital), they went to the houses, neighborhood by neighborhood. In other neighborhoods, they summoned people by loudspeaker at the ´Y´ (one of the entrances to the place),” they explained.
“My relatives were taken at night, from the capital and from the El Portal community, they are being taken to guard the exit of Comalapa, through Agua Zarca. “We are afraid that they will be forced to serve as a front line in their confrontation (between the two cartels)” , says another complaint.
In recent weeks, the clashes between the two organized crime groups have intensified, the population of the mountain area has reported that many civilians from the communities have died, and that they live trapped in these places because they are not allowed to leave the communities.
The exit they had via the La Concordia bridge was also cut off, because before reaching the place they must cross a branch of the La Angostura dam in a barge, and that barge was removed from the place last Tuesday.
