Cancun: Did you not register your pet? There will be a fine of more than a thousand pesos

Cancún impondrá multa de más de mil pesos por no registrar mascotas.

Municipal authorities have already prepared sanctions for pet owners who have not registered their pets in the Municipal Pet Registry, who could be subject to a fine of 1,037.4 pesos, equivalent to 10 Measurement and Update Units (UMA)

Of 200 thousand pets that were intended to be registered, only 8 thousand have been registered in Cancun, said councilman Julio Méndez Paniagua, who stated that many people, owners of dogs and cats, are reluctant to carry out this procedure, so now, municipal authorities will impose sanctions on this issue.

“You did not want to register it for a year without fines, that is, without any administrative consequences, right now; if you do not do it within the period that we will give again, you will be sanctioned, whether you register it or not,” he said.

He indicated that this will occur when a person requires the services of the Municipal Animal Welfare Center, such as vaccinations, deworming or sterilizations, “we will find out if said animal was not registered.”

He explained that, so far, of the eight thousand animals that have already been registered, 70 percent are dogs and the rest, cats.
