The cancellation of Luis Miguel’s concert in Mazatlán, scheduled for September 29 at the “El Encanto” soccer stadium, caused the cancellation of 40 percent of hotel reservations.
The Chief Officer, Rogelio Olivas Osuna, said that a large economic spillover was expected for the port this weekend, however, it was not possible due to the decrease in the influx of tourism.
“The truth is that this was an expected spillover for the municipality. I believe that in some it was 40 percent of their reservations, some hotels that had from Friday to Monday,” he said.
Olivas Osuna added that other sectors affected by this cancellation of the concert were restaurants, businesses and public transportation.
“In some cases sales dropped between 30 and 40 percent, especially this weekend the issue of the canceled Luis Miguel concert did affect a lot,” he said.
Although he did not give figures of the economic loss due to this concert, he detailed that just in the sale of the most expensive seats it was 11 thousand pesos, that up to 80 percent had already been sold, and in the last week Luis Miguel fans continued to buy tickets for this section.
The municipal official assured that the drop in this economic spillover was more due to the cancellation of the concert than to the violent events that have been taking place since September 9 in the state capital and in Elota, San Ignacio, Concordia and Rosario.
