
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the State of Mexico makes each edition of the TransformARTE festival a means for artisans, craftsmen and artists from the State of Mexico to present their talent, providing them with the facilities to occupy cultural spaces.
In its 10th edition, at the Centro Cultural Mexiquense, in Toluca, the theme was Del maguey y otras tradiciónes (The maguey and other traditions). In addition, Japan and the municipality of Zinacantepec participated as guest countries.
The Festival offered creativity workshops and children’s plays, as well as film screenings, dance demonstrations, folk dances and exhibitions such as the photographic one that, in the Historical Archive of the entity, shows the reforestation of magueys in 1940 and the coexistence that this generated among the inhabitants of Tezoyuca, El Oro, San Miguel Ixtapan and San Felipe del Progreso.
On the occasion of the National Corn Day, the children were able to hear the legend of Mayahuel, which speaks of the girl of song and joy who was considered the Goddess of the Maguey.
Visitors were able to enjoy the gastronomic and artisan pavilion and the conversations such as the one that revolved around the Otomi and Mazahua women.
The public who frequent this Festival were able to learn about some of the Japanese traditions such as the tea ceremony, whose meaning is of great importance for that country, and which gives an example of the hospitality of that nation towards the guests.
On the occasion of his 10th anniversary of death, Luis Nishizawa Flores was the object of a tribute at the Museum of Modern Art, a place that has one of his most important works, the spectacular mural in the shape of a mat, named the Bed of the Universe.
Meanwhile, at the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Bicentenario (CCMB) in Texcoco, this celebration by and for the people of Mexico was full of local talent with activities such as workshops, guided tours of the exhibition “Encuentro con nuestras raíces” (Meeting with our roots), concerts, artistic presentations such as the play “Ga ñomúji yo mbaro” (Ga ñomúji yo mbaro), the inauguration of the exhibition “A imagen y semejanza” (In image and likeness), by the artist Ángel Martínez, as well as the presentation of “Giselle: a ballet near you.”
The public from the East had the opportunity to listen to a talk about pulque and pulquerías (pulque bars), and to experience a temazcal (sweat lodge), where they learned about the medicinal benefits of detoxification.
The Mexiquense Philharmonic Orchestra joined this Festival and delighted the audience with a concert conducted by Gabriela Díaz Alatriste, accompanied by pianist Quetzalli Yael Reyes Meneses, with works by Khachaturian, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Franz von Suppé.
Month after month, this program, consolidated by the state agency, awaits the public of the Toluca Valley and the Valley of the Volcanoes, with proposals suitable for the whole family, free of charge.
