Layda Collapses Campeche’s Economy

Despite Governor Layda Elena Sansores San Román’s boasts that “in Campeche there’s a party for everything,” her administration is struggling to conceal the rising insecurity and economic collapse in the state. The National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics (INEGI) has released its Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE), which reveals that the situation continues to worsen. With expectations even gloomier, it’s clear that the state administration has lost its way.

We, the people of Campeche, can’t expect things to improve when our governor is more focused on her frivolities than addressing the pressing issues facing the state. In a recent exercise in gatopardismo (change that leaves everything unchanged), Governor Sansores reorganized her government team without tackling the critical problems requiring immediate attention, such as development planning and economic growth initiatives.

Miguel Ángel Gallardo López, who heads the Planning Commission for the Development of Campeche (Copladecam), has had a disastrous performance, failing to provide direction or guidance. He has instead dedicated himself to vegetating, dancing, and filling his office with foreigners at the expense of Campeche residents.

Fernando Gamboa Rosas, another ineffective member of Governor Sansores’ team, is responsible for the Secretariat of Economic Development. His lackluster performance has yielded no tangible results, and his “brainchild” ideas are unfeasible and extravagant. It’s common knowledge that he uses his office as a personal harem, while the state economy continues to plummet.

The data from INEGI’s ITAEE indicator is stark: Campeche showed a 3.2% decline in economic activity compared to the first quarter of 2023 and a more pronounced collapse of 7.2% compared to the same period last year.

This collapse affects all sectors:

* Primary activities (agriculture and livestock) fell by 7.7% compared to the second quarter of 2023.

* The secondary sector (industry and manufacturing) experienced a 9.1% decline, with an even more alarming -16.3% drop when oil mining is excluded.

The lack of direction in promoting activities in these sectors is evident, given that no one knows who is responsible for this task within the cabinet.

There is some slight recovery in tertiary activities (service sector), which increased by 0.7%. However, this growth is attributed to a lack of job creation and opportunities to progress, forcing Campeche residents to sell goods on corners just to survive.

After reviewing these figures, which demonstrate the disaster that Governor Sansores’ administration has turned the state economy into, she distributed food baskets with household items and offered meager support to affected businessmen and producers. This only serves to mitigate the misery they’ve created.

What’s worrying is that Governor Sansores’ administration lacks innovative ideas to address this dire situation, which is why the people of Campeche continue to disapprove of her in polls. Her stubbornness or madness in keeping an inept official at the head of the SPSC has contributed to rising insecurity and crime taking control in all municipalities.

It’s clear that Governor Layda Sansores San Román is responsible for this economic disaster, as she fails to excel in every area of state administration. Her government is a failure, and her disastrous results confirm this daily.
