The government of Michoacán and the Swedish organization Food Collective established a work route to export Michoacan lemon to Sweden. Thus, by the first quarter of 2025, an agreement will be signed so that the citrus fruit reaches the European market through an import scheme.

Michoacán is a leader in agricultural exports in Mexico, particularly in the United States. In this nation, one in three dollars in agricultural products comes from the state, totaling nearly 7 billion dollars annually. The highest sales are in avocado, berries, lemon and other products, such as mango and banana.

In the state, there is voluntary certification against deforestation in illegal crops that promotes the repair of forest soil affected by the environmental impact.

Food Collective focuses on the marketing of fresh, processed and frozen agricultural products in Sweden. This is a market with high demand for products such as lemon, berries and avocado.

In addition, the government of that state and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce strengthened coordination to support the development, certification and export of products such as avocado, lemon and berries.

To reach an agreement, working groups will be held between the Michoacan government and Food Collective to advance preparations for the export of lemon in 2025.
