The government of Yucatán has announced plans to expand the Mérida International Airport, a historic investment of $2.15 billion pesos will improve connectivity and attract more tourism.
In conjunction with Grupo Asur, the works are being carried out to modernize the airport and make it an attractive point for American tourists, allowing many Yucatecans to travel directly to various entities in the American Union.
Modernization of Infrastructure and Tourism
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena highlighted that his government is working on four important projects:
1. Modernization of the Progreso deep-sea port with 80 hectares of platform and new terminals.
2. Taking the Mayan Train from Umán to Progreso for transportation of cargo and passengers.
3. Creating well-being centers with natural gas.
4. Promoting tourism and creating better-paid jobs to reduce inequality.
Yucatán’s Integration into the Industrial Corridor
The state leader pointed out that his administration is working hard on integrating Yucatan into the industrial corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, offering an investment option in the state with natural gas and clean energy services.
Citizen Service Days and 50th Anniversary Celebration
Governor Díaz Mena stressed that his government has opened the doors of the Government Palace to all citizens, with citizen service days. The fair is being held on its 50th anniversary and will feature a record number of events by national and international artists (with free admission for Yucatecan residents) and three million visitors in the three weeks it will be held.
A New Era of Tourism
The governor emphasized that Yucatán has its doors open, with archaeological attractions, gastronomy, coasts, cenotes, colonial cities, and magical towns, to receive national and international tourists. The backbone of the government project is the Mayan Renaissance, taking advantage of progress made and that the best years for Yucatecans are those to come.
The general director of the Yucatan Institute for the Promotion of Fairs highlighted that all business chambers will participate in the fair, which began in 1974, to promote gastronomy, crafts, among others. This year it will include agricultural and livestock activities and a mega dairy farm, while 12 concerts by national and international artists will be presented at the Montejo Entertainment Center.
