Social leader kidnapped on the border of Oaxaca and Veracruz; both states refuse to issue the search card

Relatives reported the disappearance of Elmer Agustín Pulido Montalvo, a social leader and coordinator of general services in the Tuxtepec city council and maintain that authorities from both states refuse to issue the search form.

Sources close to the case informed this media that the disappearance occurred yesterday Monday and stated that during the last hours the search actions have “bogged down” because it is presumed to have occurred on the border between Oaxaca and Veracruz, in the community of San Antonio Texas, a demarcation on the banks of the Papaloapan River opposite the Oaxacan side, but which belongs to the neighboring state.

According to the local report, Pulido Montalvo was deprived of his liberty in Cosamaloapan, at his home, when alleged armed men took him in a black suburban and crossed the border into Oaxaca.

Who is Elmer Agustín Pulido Montalvo?

Elmer Pulido, 40 years old, has had an active life in the municipality of Tuxtepec, where he currently holds a public office; in addition, he was a student leader at the Technological Institute of Tuxtepec, where he formed a student front against the systematic increase in public transportation.

In the region, he is also known as the founder of the “Jafrys” drum band, a cultural and musical group that is the most requested at political and social events in the Oaxacan municipalities of the northern border.

According to the biography provided by his close circle that reports his disappearance, the Oaxacan or Veracruz authorities have not yet responded.

Elmer Pulido is an active member of the National Peasant Indigenous Union (UCIN), a producer of sugar cane and other crops, and was also participating in the process of changing the leadership of the National Confederation of Rural Owners (CNPR).
