Since early Thursday morning, regional Civil Protection authorities have alerted drivers of heavy vehicles, such as empty trailers, about the presence of strong winds in the area of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The strong winds, said the coordinator of PC, Jesús González Pérez, bring gusts of between 100 and 120 kilometers per hour, especially in the stretch from Santo Domingo Ingenio to La Ventosa, which can cause empty trailers to overturn on the Pan-American Highway 190.
They also alerted fishermen working in the Upper and Lower lagoons, due to the presence of waves up to five meters high, derived from the strong winds generated by Cold Front number 10.
The alert issued by PC included the total restriction of the passage of empty trucks from the town of La Mata to La Ventosa, on the Transístmica Highway 185, where in times of strong winds, trailers are constantly overturned.
Cold Front number 10, said González Pérez, is causing a drop in temperature, as well as rain in the mountainous areas of Chimalapas, the Zapoteca-Mixe mountain range and in the northern area of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
Despite the restrictions and in the absence of elements of the National Guard Road Division, the drivers of the empty trailers ignored the alert, arguing that they cannot lose time in transporting their merchandise.
