The natural wonders, architectural beauty and rich cultural diversity of Oaxaca continue to attract national and international productions. For this reason, the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) Oaxaca highlighted that the state becomes a stage for cinematography.
With the filming of “Falsas Ilusiones”, the provisional title of the first film by director Rafael Martínez Montiel, produced by Tepeyac Films, the growing interest in Oaxaca as a location for audiovisual productions is reflected. During the current administration, Sectur has provided support to approximately 10 projects, including soap operas, films, short films, documentaries and series.
The support provided includes various areas, such as suggesting locations, support in the scouting process, managing permits from municipal and state authorities, disseminating productions, among other key actions to facilitate the development of these projects.
The filming of the movie began in the city of Oaxaca, in emblematic places such as the Benito Juárez Market, the outskirts of the Temple of Santo Domingo, the main square of the city and various streets of the Historic Center, as well as in the municipality of Santiago Matatlán.
In the near future, the production will move to the Oaxacan Coast to film in places such as the Magical Town of Mazunte and Zipolite, which is the only nudist beach in Oaxaca and Biocultural Heritage.
Sectur Oaxaca highlighted that the impact of these productions goes beyond the screen, since by being broadcast on streaming platforms and national and international television networks, they contribute significantly to the promotion of tourist destinations in Oaxaca, positioning the state as a reference in both the film and tourism industries.
