Alleged Robber Arrested on Playa del Carmen-Tulum Highway

Ociel de Jesús “N,” a man with a criminal record dating back to age 16, was arrested by the Highway Unit on Federal Highway 307, near Chemuyil, following numerous reports of assaults from citizens. He has been placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office.

The arrest occurred after citizens reported constant assaults in the area. Authorities found nine vehicles with damaged tires and rims, caused by stones and logs intentionally placed to obstruct the road. Two men armed with knives were threatening drivers in an attempt to rob them. One attacker escaped, but Ociel de Jesús “N” was captured on the spot.

According to official reports, Ociel de Jesús “N” has a long history of complaints related to robberies and assaults in the region.

The Highway Unit, part of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, provided support to the affected drivers, securing the area and facilitating vehicle repairs. This intervention was prompted by citizen complaints about the dangers on this stretch of road, considered a critical point of insecurity.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security urges anyone who recognizes the detainee or has been a victim of his criminal acts to file a formal complaint with the authorities. These actions aim to reinforce security on Federal Highway 307 and ensure the safety of drivers traveling this route.
