The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Campeche (FGE) is facing increasing complaints about delays in the administration of justice, with an impunity rate of 83.75% in 2023, according to Inegi.

Ligia Rodríguez Mejía, president of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Campeche (Codhecam), reported that the majority of complaints against the FGE are related to delays in justice administration. She highlighted that these delays often lead to the opening of files against the authority.

The National Census of State and Federal Justice Administration (CNPJE-F) by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) revealed that the FGE had an impunity rate of 83.75% in 2023. Last year, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Campeche opened 21,861 investigation files for various crimes. Of these, 18,308 remained open into 2024, 673 were concluded, and 3,947 were determined.

Rodríguez Mejía explained that in cases of delay, Codhecam first seeks conciliation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office to understand the reason for the delay or expedite the complaint. They request an immediate analysis from the FGE to decide whether to exercise criminal action, aiming to resolve the investigation file for the victim’s peace of mind.

Common cases affected by delays include investigation files for violence against women, domestic violence, abandonment of duties, and home invasion. Citizens often express dissatisfaction with the lack of ministerial action in these cases.

Rodríguez Mejía emphasized that citizens have the right to prompt and expeditious justice, as stated in the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States. She stressed that complaints of domestic violence must be addressed urgently to provide adequate protection to victims.
