Baja California Sur (BCS) was positioned as the entity with the largest wage gap between men and women in the second quarter of 2024, according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, released on December 12.
The wage gap is the difference in income between men and women. This indicator shows structural inequalities in access to opportunities, working conditions and economic recognition, derived in many cases from factors such as discrimination, gender roles and the lack of inclusive policies in the workplace.
According to the information, the average monthly income of men in the state amounts to 12,829 pesos, while that of women is 9,180 pesos, which means a difference of 3,649 pesos.
This margin places BCS above other entities with wide wage inequalities, such as Nayarit and Nuevo León.
In comparison, the wage gap in Baja California Sur is more than double the national average, reflecting a more pronounced inequality problem. Despite this considerable wage gap, Baja California Sur also stands out as the state with the highest average monthly income for both genders.
In contrast, the state with the lowest average income for men and women is Morelos, Querétaro and Oaxaca, where women earn approximately 2,220 pesos and men 2,993 pesos.
