As every year, Google Trends reveals the trends that captured the attention of Mexicans during 2024. From sporting events to natural phenomena, this list gives us a glimpse into the interests and concerns of Mexico. Below, we break down the most prominent topics.
Events that marked the year
Without a doubt, a national passion is soccer, since the Euro Cup, one of the most anticipated sporting events worldwide, is at the top of general searches. The Copa América follows, reaffirming the interest in this sport in the country. Other relevant topics include the classic game between América vs Cruz Azul, the spectacular solar eclipse, and the reality show La Casa de los Famosos, which generated thousands of conversations on social media.
A sporting year
Sport dominated searches with the Euro Cup and the Copa América in the first places. In third place is the exciting clash between America vs Cruz Azul, while disciplines such as artistic gymnastics and artistic swimming also stood out, showing a growing interest in other sports areas probably due to the Paris Olympics.
Natural phenomena and the environment
Mexicans also searched for topics related to the climate and the environment. The term climate was the most searched, followed by morning weather and the spectacular solar eclipse that captivated the country. In addition, concern about excessive heat and environmental contingencies reflect a growing awareness of climate change.
Television and streaming
In the entertainment field, La Casa de los Famosos led searches on television, followed by the period drama Bridgerton. Other programs that captured attention were Nadie nos va a extrañar, the endearing Bebé reno and the intriguing El secreto del río.
Movies
Cinema also had its highlights. In first place is Inside Out 2, the sequel to the beloved animated film. Deadpool & Wolverine, Beetlejuice 2, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Snow Society also generated expectations, each with unique proposals that attracted different audiences.
People who made people talk
Finally, in the people category, Ángela Aguilar took first place thanks to her influence in music and social networks. Names such as Daniel Bisogno, Christian Nodal, Fofo Márquez and Briggite Bozzo also stood out, who starred in stories that kept the public interested.
Collective interest
Other searches of the year in Mexico were political topics, such as this year’s elections, both in our country and in the United States. And practical topics such as “how to locate my voting booth” or the name of President Claudia Sheinbaum, speak of how important the political issue was during this year.
