If there is something we like about Mexico City, it is the possibility of starting our day with a breakfast full of energy and flavor; with champurrado accompanied by a tamale being the favorite option of all capital residents.
During this first weekend of the month, you will not only be able to start your day tasting your classic ‘tamalito’ with green sauce or mole, but you will also be able to enjoy an infinite number of innovative options with ingredients that you never thought you would taste in a tamale.
This is thanks to the fact that in our metropolis various events and large fairs will be held within the framework of the celebration of “Candelaria Day” with options of this traditional dish that you cannot miss the opportunity to taste!
Tamale Fair 2025
As every year, in the Coyoacán municipality one of the most anticipated fairs for all capital residents with a taste for good food will be held. Since its first edition in 1992, this event seeks to promote the recognition of the great cultural and gastronomic wealth of Mexico.
The word “tamal” comes from the Nahuatl tamalli, which means “wrapped.” Tamales are made with corn or rice dough, filled with meat and sauce.
With more than 50 exhibitors from 10 states of the Mexican Republic, this fair promises to be one of the most memorable. Here you can taste traditional sweet and savory tamales, and others with new ingredients such as grasshoppers and acociles.
Typical accompanying drinks will also be offered, such as atole in its various flavors by region, coffee from the pot, champurrado, pozol, a variety of snacks and seasonal fresh waters.
In addition, during the event there will be a dance demonstration by the Talleres Libres of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a bolero presentation by Ángel Flores and a show of popular Mexican singing and opera with Lupita Fernández.
Address: Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares, Av. Miguel Hidalgo 289, Colonia Del Carmen, Coyoacán. Free admission.
Hours: From January 31 to February 2, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Vegan Tamale Fair

The tenth edition of the tamale in its most special version is about to take place in the heart of the city. Here everyone will be able to enjoy traditional tamales, but made with delicious alternative ingredients and completely free of animal origin.
In addition, you can find savory and sweet tamales, with creative fillings based on vegetables, fruits, mushrooms and legumes that will surely test the palate of all the capital’s residents!
Tamales come in a wide variety of presentations, with sweet fillings usually being the favorites of the little ones.
Best of all, at this fair you can also find other vegan food options from local producers and even activities that seek to raise awareness about sustainable food and the relevance of the impact of what we consume on the environment.
