The Historic Center of Morelia, the Temple of Santiago Apóstol de Nurio and the appointment of Pátzcuaro as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity are the main priorities to be addressed in Michoacán by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) during 2025.

In an interview with El Sol de Morelia, the federal head of the agency, Diego Prieto Hernández, with the budget assigned for this year that was announced by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, it is planned to work on these three aspects and thus continue safeguarding the archaeological heritage of the state.

We are promoting a series of tasks in the archaeological field such as the legal and technical protection of archaeological heritage such as the Historic Center of Morelia and the monumental heritage in general

These conservation works also include the participation of the state’s native communities, such as that of Nurio, who have contributed to the restoration of the Temple of Santiago Apostol, which suffered a fire in 2021 and has already begun the second stage of its remodeling.

There is still work that we have to do and I hope to be soon to witness the subsequent deliveries of restored work. The same, in other communities where we are working for the recovery of the heritage of the P’urhépecha communities

Likewise, he considered positive the delivery of the file to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) to declare Pátzcuaro as a Site of Historical Memory because it not only represents a boost to the municipality, but to the entire country.

Finally, other actions that will be carried out will be in the protection of archaeological pieces that have been found such as the Chac Mool in the construction of the Municipal Market of this Magical Town or the 62 crafts confiscated at the Morelia International Airport.

This 2025, the INAH will receive five thousand 901 million 975 thousand 340 pesos, approximately, from the budget granted to the Federal Ministry of Culture, being about 34 percent more than what it received in 2024.
