The launch of the Morelia cable car represents a key step towards the modernization of transportation in the city, offering a comfortable, fast and efficient alternative that will significantly contribute to the reduction of vehicular traffic. It is estimated that up to 12,500 cars will stop circulating every day, by encouraging the use of this public transportation system.

According to a statement, the Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility, Gladyz Butanda Macías, highlighted that this project will speed up the travel times of thousands of people, promoting more efficient mobility and reducing dependence on private cars.

We expect a significant decrease in traffic congestion on the main avenues, which will improve the fluidity of traffic and optimize connectivity in the city.

In addition to the benefits in mobility, the reduction of the vehicle fleet will have a positive impact on air quality and the health of the population. The decrease in the emission of pollutants will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment, reinforcing Morelia’s commitment to responsible urban development.

This network will optimize access to essential services and reduce travel times in high-demand areas.

In its second stage, the cable car will be extended to Santa María, reaching a length of 7.2 kilometers with the addition of a seventh station.

The system will have 93 cabins that will travel at a speed of five meters per second, providing an efficient and fast transportation option.
