FGE Michoacán resolves 79 out of every 100 feminicides: Mexico Evaluates

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) managed to increase the effectiveness in the investigation and prosecution of the crime of femicide by up to 79 percent last year, according to an official report; it exceeded the national average by more than 60 percent. The statistics were analyzed by the civil organization, Mexico Evalúa, and it indicates that the national average of 13 percent in the effectiveness in this type of crime.

The increase in the effectiveness in the investigation of intentional homicide and femicide allowed Michoacán to be recognized as the entity with the greatest advances in the reduction of impunity for these crimes. The specialized study Hallazgos 2023, carried out by the citizen organization Mexico Evalúa, placed Michoacán in sixth place nationwide in the effectiveness of the investigation of intentional homicide,” says the report.

Regarding femicide, the study indicates that Michoacán was the entity with the lowest rate of impunity for this crime. The effectiveness of the Prosecutor’s Office was 79 percent, while at the national level it was only 13 percent. Despite the favorable figures for the administration of justice, there are still pending issues in the prevention of femicide, because last year Michoacán closed with 18 hate homicides, in addition to 149 women victims of intentional homicides.
