Influenza deaths in Puebla: 95% were unvaccinated

The Puebla State Government, through the Ministry of Health, reported that 95 percent of the influenza deaths recorded in the state occurred in people who had not received the influenza vaccine.

The state agency indicated that 67 percent of the fatal cases had comorbidities such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension, factors that significantly increase the risk of serious complications from influenza.

Currently, three active cases of influenza are reported in hospitals in the municipalities of Puebla, San Martín Texmelucan, and Cuautlancingo.

Influenza is an acute and contagious respiratory illness, the most common symptoms of which are fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, muscle aches, fatigue, and, in some cases, difficulty breathing.

Given this situation, the Ministry of Health urged the population to get the influenza vaccine annually, especially during the winter season, as the main preventive measure. He also recommended maintaining hygiene habits such as frequent handwashing, covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing, and avoiding close contact with sick people.
