In continuation of the narco-blockades and vehicle burnings in Michoacán and surrounding states, criminal groups from Apatzingán and Tarímbaro attacked federal forces with US weapons; the Mexican government is deploying actions to restore the rule of law in the region.

“During the operational intervention in the municipalities of Apatzingán and Tarímbaro, Mexican Army and National Guard personnel were attacked with firearms by members of criminal groups,” the statement said.

One of the clashes occurred in the town of La Puerta de Alambre. After repelling the attackers, security forces reported seizing three US-made rifles, three magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, and two tactical vests; three attackers were killed at the scene.

The second clash was reported in the town of Ex Hacienda de Guadalupe, Tarímbaro. Federal forces reported the seizure of four American-made rifles, magazines, cartridges, and a vehicle; one assailant was reported injured, three assailants were reported dead, and two government vehicles were damaged by the heavy fire.

“In these actions, personnel acted in strict adherence to the rule of law and in compliance with the National Law on the Use of Force.

The Security Cabinet reiterates its commitment to stopping perpetrators of violence who violate the rule of law,” the statement concluded.

Michoacán under fire due to unexplained situations

So far, the real motives for the violence unleashed in the states of the Republic have not been confirmed. However, the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the arrest of two alleged organized crime criminals linked to the riots that occurred on April 23.

For his part, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, stated that the armed forces will continue to deploy across the three states and 26 municipalities to contain the violence.

“Violent incidents have been reported in 26 municipalities in Michoacán, two in Guanajuato, and one in Jalisco, resulting in the burning of several vehicles, three attacks on stores, several blockades, and assaults on authorities, resulting in the death of two police officers.

In a coordinated effort by authorities, the situation in these states has been stabilized, personnel presence has been reinforced, and several explosive devices have been seized,” the secretary highlighted in a post by X.
