With the goal of facilitating the relocation of foreign companies and achieving greater local productive integration, Coahuila and Durango will be part of the federal government’s strategy for 41 development centers with tax incentives.
To attract investment, substitute imports, and strengthen domestic industry with tax incentives and infrastructure, the federal government will launch the decree that will create the Economic Development Centers for Well-being (Podecobi).
Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard made the presentation during the morning press conference and emphasized that there will be administrative benefits.
Durango will be one of the new centers, while the Coahuila Coal Zone is under evaluation, along with Mérida, Yucatán, Lázaro Cárdenas-La Unión, Isidoro Montes de Oca, Guerrero, and Hermosillo, Sonora.
The federal official specified that the project includes a package of fiscal incentives to be applied until 2030, aimed at Mexican companies investing in productive capacity and at foreign companies relocating to these territories.
More benefits
Regarding the benefits, he highlighted the “immediate 100 percent deduction on investment in new fixed assets, as well as an additional 25 percent deduction for training programs.”
Regarding the eligibility criteria, the document presented revealed that they will be based on the project’s economic impact, the inclusion of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), import substitution, and the strengthening of local value chains.
“In accordance with Action 12 of Plan Mexico, the objective is to support the competitiveness of the Economic Development Hubs for Well-being with fiscal incentives that encourage new investments,” the document stated.
In this regard, the evaluation and authorization of these centers will be the responsibility of a committee that will include several agencies, including the Ministry of Economy (SE), the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHPC), and others.
