In an interview, the head of the Secretariat for Agricultural Promotion (SIA), José Jesús de la Peña Bernal, reported that they will seek to expand the market for Tlaxcala beekeepers, highlighting the importance of this sector for the local economy.

He noted that Tlaxcala is currently the third-largest honey producer nationwide, and that, in conjunction with the SIA, various sales expos will be organized to promote the product in other states across the country.

As part of these initiatives, he announced that the 29th International Beekeeping Update Congress will be held from July 12th to 14th, this year to be held at the Tlaxcala Convention Center.

Additionally, on May 22nd, a group of entrepreneurial women will be selling Tlaxcalan honey door-to-door in Mexico City, also promoting other local products in different areas of the capital.

The congress will feature keynote lectures, product displays, specialized workshops, and the participation of beekeepers who will explain the honey-making process and the importance of the bees’ work.

“Buyers from different countries will arrive to learn about Tlaxcala’s production and generate new opportunities for our producers,” he stated.

Finally, he called on the population to protect bees, highlighting their ecological and economic benefits. He emphasized the production of butter honey, recognized for its easy-to-spread texture and its presence in international markets such as Germany and France.

He concluded by urging people to avoid the use of pesticides on crops as a key measure to preserve these insects, essential to the ecosystem.
