The Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) of the State of Mexico reported that Hugo Francisco “N,” leader of the social group “Emiliano Zapata Popular Management and Organization” (GOPEZ), was arrested and is being investigated for the crimes of dispossession and extortion.
Authorities indicated that as part of Operation Restitution, Hugo Francisco “N” was apprehended in Veracruz and will be transferred to a prison in the State of Mexico.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the objective of Operation Restitution is to “dismantle criminal networks and provide protection related to property dispossession.”
The FGJ also stated that these actions seek to combat “systematic acts of property crimes,” especially those committed by organizations “with alleged social or political overtones.”
Authorities in the State of Mexico specified that this arrest was carried out in collaboration with the Veracruz Attorney General’s Office. Last week, the Attorney General’s Office reported that from April 1 to May 16, they seized 268 properties in 31 municipalities in order to return them to their rightful owners.
On May 16, authorities in the State of Mexico reported that they implemented various operations and seized 75 properties used as homes, residences, industrial warehouses, warehouses, or land in 25 municipalities of the state.
In these operations, 21 individuals were arrested for their probable involvement in the crimes of carrying a weapon, resisting forced displacement, and dispossession. They are also accused of being linked to alleged organizations that call themselves unions.
