As a result of the recent promotional tour of Asia, organized by Copreen and the Baja California Secretariat of Economic Innovation (SEI), eight companies were identified as potential prospects for expanding operations to Ensenada.
In a press conference attended by Mario Alberto Peregrina Brizuela and Keiko Nishikawa, president and vice president of the Ensenada Economic Promotion Commission (Copreen), as well as Lulú Martínez, winemaker at Vinícola Bruma, it was reported that the trip had two focuses: attracting investment in the industrial sector and promoting Baja California wines in Japan. Peregrina Brizuela explained that they visited six cities: five in China and one in Japan.
“We found companies that are interested in learning more about the city of Ensenada. Specifically, there are medical product parks, aerospace parks, and automotive industry products parks,” she stated.
Additionally, they participated in a Business Seminar for the Shenzhen Chamber of Commerce (China), with representatives from 13 companies focused on the legal aspects of operations, logistics, and tariffs. They also visited the cities of Shenzhen, Jiangmen, Shanghai, Dongguan, and Beijing.
“What we found was that there were many more companies that wanted to come and learn about what we do here. One thing that interested them was what we offer in the supply chain: whether they can find raw materials. For example, there are companies that have 10 processes, maybe they outsource three, and then seven. It has to do with the investment they have to make,” he noted.
The president of Copreen announced that both the companies and the aforementioned chamber requested that they return in July or August to offer another seminar so other companies can learn how to establish themselves in the municipality.
“This monitoring we’re doing now involves another level, which is where they could establish themselves. We, at Copreen, have combed the city for industrial developments, especially those that are sustainable and meet standards. And we’re currently working on that,” he emphasized.
Regarding the interested sectors, they are household appliances, medical products and the industry, and automotive accessories.
Technological Collaboration
Regarding the visit to Japan, they held strategic meetings with JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and its office in Osaka to explore opportunities for technological collaboration and bilateral investment.
They also held a meeting with the Japan Aerospace Cluster, with an emphasis on innovation, talent, and binational projects, and attended three events within the framework of Baja California Wine Week, promoting Ensenada’s wine and gastronomy.
