With just one month to go before its inauguration, the Campeche Light Rail is nearing completion, with an impressive 98% of the project finished. According to Governor Layda Sansores and General Óscar David Lozano Águila, general director of the Tren Maya company, the light rail is on track to begin operations by July 1st.

The construction of the Campeche Light Rail has made significant progress in infrastructure, with all 14 stations and one bus stop nearing completion. Additionally, the rolling surface has been fully completed. The Control and Maintenance Center, a crucial component of the operation, is reporting 89.5% progress, while the fast-charging system that will power the units is 88.2% complete.

The complementary urban improvement for the Light Rail in Campeche, which includes the rehabilitation of parks, curbs, and sidewalks, is also making good progress at 87.7%. The integrated testing period for all systems is expected to begin on June 14th, paving the way for its inauguration scheduled for June 30th.

When it begins operations, the Light Rail train will play a vital role in connecting strategic points such as the Historic Center, Campeche International Airport, and the Maya Train station. However, its impact will extend beyond just transportation, as it will also serve the citizens of Campeche over a route of more than 15 kilometers.

The investment for the Campeche Light Rail was substantial, with an estimated 4.2 billion pesos poured into the project. This represents a modern mobility project unique in Mexico’s southeast region, and one that is set to revolutionize urban transportation in Campeche.

As President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo recently inspected the construction of this public transportation system, the Campeche Light Rail is more than just a mode of transportation – it is a symbol of progress and innovation.
