Five thousand live dairy cows from Australia will arrive by ship to the port of Mazatlán to strengthen milk production in different regions of the country.
The administrator of the National Port System, Mariel Ancona Infanzón, explained that this is the third batch imported by sea in 2025, after Mazatlán had not received cattle by sea for more than 15 years.
“They will arrive again from Australia, approximately 5 live cows. 5,000 will return for Durango, if I remember correctly. So what they’re doing is good. All those cows are dairy cows, not beef cows, but dairy cows, and they are to increase the breeding stock and all the dairy herds in Durango, Jalisco, Hidalgo, Aguascalientes, and the cities where they are being sent. We will probably see more cows arriving,” she said.
With this shipment, the number of imported cows will reach almost 13,000. The tentative arrival date is between June 8 and 10.
After unloading, the cattle will be shipped by land to states such as Durango, Jalisco, Hidalgo, Aguascalientes, and Guanajuato.
