Seven municipal police officers from Ziracuaretiro, including a woman, were found guilty of the forced disappearance of a farmer on September 10, 2019, according to the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

According to the law enforcement agency, during the oral trial, the Public Prosecutor’s Office agent demonstrated that on the day of the events, farmer Isaac G. was in an avocado orchard located on 5 de Mayo Avenue in the aforementioned municipality when the accused officers arrived and, for no reason, beat the victim on various parts of his body.

The man was subsequently subdued and placed in a patrol car, where he was taken to an unknown destination. He was not handed over to any competent authority, and his whereabouts have remained unknown ever since.

As a result of the investigations by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Crimes of Forced Disappearance of Persons and Disappearances Committed by Private Parties, an investigation file was compiled and the possible involvement of the then-public officials in the crime was established. They were brought before the Control Judge, who ruled to charge them.

The detainees were identified as Juan José “N”, Raúl Ernesto “N”, Luis Ángel “N”, Marco Antonio “N”, Víctor Hugo “N”, Moisés “N”, and Rocío “N”.

At a hearing, and after analyzing the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, the Trial Court issued a guilty verdict against the defendants, and the sentencing hearing will be held shortly.

According to the FGE, the investigation continues because the victim remains unaccounted for.

Just on May 18, three municipal police officers from Zamora were convicted for the forced disappearance of two men and a woman on August 4, 2023.

The victims had been detained while driving a vehicle and allegedly making an inadvertent turn. They were taken to the Public Security Secretariat facilities, where officers René “N”, Miguel “N”, and Rubén “N” arrived, handcuffed them, and placed them in the “barrier” area. Their whereabouts remain unknown to this day.
