This Sunday, a heavy security operation was deployed in the border area between Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, following an armed confrontation between armed civilians and authorities from all three levels of government.

The attack began in the municipalities of Luis Moya and Cuauhtémoc, bordering the state of Aguascalientes, when the assailants, suspected members of organized crime, began shooting at state police officers. The shooting later spread to three other locations in the region.

Aguascalientes Joins the Search

The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) implemented intensive ground and air patrols using a Black Hawk helicopter to locate the criminals. It was also necessary to request support from the Aguascalientes police to reinforce the search operation.

Residents of the region reported that several vehicles with heavily armed men were traveling at high speed in the area and they could hear gunshots for several minutes.

Citizens posted messages on social media recommending shelter in place during the clashes.

The operation continues

So far, no authorities have released information about what happened; however, the operation continues in the border region between the two states.

At least four forensic medical units from the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) were dispatched to the scene. The number of dead or injured attackers is still unknown. However, the body of a female attacker can be seen visible at the scene. Agents participating in the operation revealed that several attackers were also arrested and airlifted to the capital.
