A truck driver thwarted an attempted robbery on the Esperanza–Ciudad Serdán highway in Puebla after being shot by an armed group traveling in a gray RAM pickup truck, license plate NFG-962-A. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.

The footage shows the truck pulling up in front of the truck and the occupants firing multiple shots. However, the driver decided not to stop and rammed the attackers with his vehicle, successfully preventing the robbery.

Context: Robberies against truck drivers in Puebla increased by 13% in April compared to the previous month, with a total of 164 incidents, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP). On average, 144 truck robberies are recorded per month in the state.

Furthermore, vehicle theft is on the rise. In 2024, Puebla reported 10,630 stolen vehicles, the highest number in the last four years. In comparison, 8,700 cases were recorded in 2023; 7,738 in 2022; and 7,930 in 2021. Although the current number is still below the peak of 13,407 thefts recorded in 2019, the state now ranks fourth in the nation for this crime. It should be noted that, despite the annual increase, vehicle theft in April 2024 showed a slight 8% decrease compared to March.

Truck Used in Previous Robberies

According to the “Thermokineros de corazón oficial” account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the RAM truck involved in the attack in Esperanza-Ciudad Serdán had previously been reported to authorities for its alleged involvement in other robberies, but no action has been taken.

“The fellow truck driver thwarted an attempted robbery by ramming his vehicle into the assailants who were traveling in a gray RAM truck, which had already been reported for committing robberies,” the post reads.

So far, authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident, nor have they confirmed the driver’s condition or identity.
