Morena disassociates itself from the call for protests at the US embassy.

The Morena party coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, and his co-religionist Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate, distanced their party from the call for Morena legislators to protest in front of the United States Embassy over the raids and detentions of migrants in Los Angeles, California.

Among others, Representative Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar and Senator Guadalupe Chavira supported the call on social media on Sunday for a “peaceful and supportive protest against the repression of migrants in the United States.”

The mobilization was scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon in front of the US Embassy on Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City.

Both Morena legislators later deleted the call from their accounts.

When questioned about the matter, Monreal Ávila clarified that there is no agreement or authorization from the parliamentary group for such a protest.

“The parliamentary group is not planning to hold protests in front of the embassy; there is no agreement on that matter. On the contrary, we need to act unitedly in designing strategies so as not to act as isolated entities, but as entities integrated into a front, which is Mexico.”

“So, there is no agreement or authorization from the group to hold these types of protests in front of the embassy,” he stated.
He urged his fellow members, however, to make their comments about the situation in Los Angeles through diplomatic channels.

Noroña rules out participation in protest
Separately, Fernández Noroña ruled out participating in the protest in front of the United States embassy to avoid a “mixed message.”

“We are evaluating it with the organizers, that is, there should be no discussion among the organizers, but we don’t want to send a mixed message. Personally, I won’t say what I’m going to do; I’d better wait, because then if something gets complicated, they start ‘lero, lero, lero, lero.'” “So, I’ll wait,” he said.
“So, you still don’t know if you’ll participate?” he was asked.

“I’m not going to participate,” he cut short.

Previously, the spokesperson for the Morena federal deputies, Arturo Ávila, denied the call originally supported by Ramírez Cuéllar and Chavira to hold a protest in front of the United States Embassy and asserted that neither Morena, nor its parliamentary group, nor allied organizations have any connection with the call.

“These types of publications seek to generate misinformation, confrontation, and damage the respectful relationship between the governments of Mexico and the United States. We strongly reject any attempt to sow division through anonymous or fictitious calls,” the legislator said in a statement.
